Literal Translation: Quality or Power of Turning ~ of Revolution ~ of Rotation.
In Fanatical Yankee's Deeply Demented & Twisted View of the FootBall World: A Defender's Capacity ~ or lack thereof ~ to Flip Hips or Turn & Burn in order to Mirror a prospective Receiver as he bolts DownField.
In Man Coverage, Core Strength and Combat Craft play a large role in a CornerBack's Success or Failure.
In Man Coverage or in Zone, you can be sure that Fluidity, Acceleration, Ball Skills, and ~ above all but Verticity ~ Processing Speed impact the Fortune of any CornerBack.
Run Defense is very important, as well.
...At least in my Perception.
But, above all, Processing Speed ~ Rapidly Reading & Reacting as the Play unfolds and ~ particular to Corners above all other Players ~ Verticity...are what carve out the difference between Pro Bowler and Putz.
Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass what a CornerBacks's "40" Time is.
And I care even less about'is "Ball Skills". Interceptions are nice, but just Gravy. The idea is to play Defense.
Verticity ~ His Verticity sucks. Any Team that plays Off or Zone Coverage'd have to be out'f their freaking minds to draft this kid...On the other hand, he commands outstanding Core Strength & Combat Craft, and he clearly enjoys employing these skills as an extremely physical Defender, so he could have a future in Man Coverage.
Run Defense ~ Decent. Rhodes isn't as physical a Run Defender as he's advertised to be, in my view. And he also displays poor Spacial Diagnostics, often taking Bad Angles. Furthermore, he seems to me to be one of those guys who're more interested in making Big Hits than in playing disciplined FootBall and sticking to'is Assignment.
Rhodes is a tough, physical Press Corner, but he's undisciplined and makes mistakes. For somebody with'is horrible Fluidity & Verticity, those could prove to be flat out disastrous at The Next Level, against NFL Caliber WideOuts.
The thing that worries me most about'm, though, is that his propensity for clutching & grabbing speaks to a fundamentally sloppy approach to the Game...one which I fear will prove fatal at The Next Level.
There's Talent to work with, here, but I believe Rhodes is far more of a Gamble than is generally perceived.
