Defensive Tackles are perhaps my favorites Beasts on the Field.
And they are the most important Defenders, regardless of what the Clowns on TeleVision may say.
When evaluating Defensive Tackles, these are the Attributes to which I pay most particular attention:
Launch Velocity ~ How rapidly do they Burst Off The Snap?
Core Strength ~ How Stout are they at the Point of Attack ~ how well can they hold their Ground?
Drive Power ~ How much Onslaught can they bring ~ how well can they drive their man back?
Combat ~ How effective are they with their Hands ~ their Punch & Placement?
Fluidity ~ How Sinuous are they with their moves, as they try to get free and make a Play?
Lateral Agility ~ How Adept are they at skittering right and left to respond as the Play develops?
Stamina ~ How's their Closing Burst? And can they keep up the Pace for 4 Quarters for 20 Weeks?
Core Strength ~ Awful!!
Drive Power ~ Weak!!
Combat ~ Awesome Paw Power!!
Fluidity ~ Exceptional.
Lateral Agility ~ Outstanding.
Stamina ~ Platooned at Florida, so it's a question, but his Motor is phenomenal.
His Core Strength is awful, as a result of which he'll get killed in the Run Game against Power Schemes. But he boasts explosive Launch Velocity off the Snap, outstanding Paw Power, tremendous Fluidity, and a relentless, raging Motor, which makes me think that he might have great Success against Zone, and perhaps even against Power.
That blistering Launch Velocity, punishing Paw Power, remarkable Athleticism, and raging, roaring Motor potentially make Floyd a Terror as a Pass Rushing 3 Tech in a 434 Scheme. Yet he has little Drive Power to speak of, and I'm not entirely sure that that won't prove to be an hindrance, despite his Burst, Athleticism, & Paw Power.
Even so, there is legitimate Star Potential, here, and the Motor to make it happen.
