Rams ~ 6024/234
When evaluating MidFielders, these are the Attributes to which I pay most particular attention:
Run Defense ~ Processing Speed, Power, Agility, and Mechanics as he Works Traffic and of course Tackling.
Pass Coverage ~ Processing Speed, Agility, and Verticity. Tackling.
Pass Rush ~ Power, Agility, and Mechanics.
Intangibles ~ Processing Speed, Field Vision, and Motor.
Pass Coverage ~ Awful. That inadequate Fluidity translates into horrible Verticity, combined with sluggish Field Vision.
Pass Rush ~ Raw but potentially phenomenal. That weak Fluidity hurts'm, and his Combat Skills need developing, but his combination of explosive Launch Velocity and incredible Core Power have the Potential, given Time, Coaching and Dedication, to translate into dynamic Pass Rushing Prowess at The Next Level.
Intangibles ~ Horrible!! His Diagnostic Acuity and Processing Speed are awful. His Motor is reportedly fine, after questions earlier in his College Career, but there've been serious Academic difficulties, as well.
No need to beat around the bush on this one: I see Howard Jones as almost exclusively a Pass Rushing Prospect.
I have serious doubts about his chances of overcoming a combination of what I perceive to be deficient Fluidity and glacial Processing Speed enough to be anything but a Liability in Run Defense and Pass Coverage.
However, as a Pass Rusher ~ as a guy you just send in on Passing Downs and tell to pin'is ears back ~ that combination of extraordinary Core Power and phenomenal Launch Velocity, while probably needing some intensive coaching and possibly a Year or two to develop, could quite possibly translate to multiple Years of Double Digit Sacks.
The Players Association Game that I watched is worth a view: Jones is only about 234 Pounds or so, and yet the gigantic Left Tackle he was going against regularly needed a Double Team to contain'm!!
Jones has the Frame to easily add another 10 to 20 Pounds of Beef.
He's got a shot, I think, at producing an All Pro level of Sacks & Pressure ~ of relentless Disruption ~ on only a few hundred Snaps a Year, at The Next Level, if he's got the Intelligence & Drive to develop his Game.
Does he? I simply don't know.
But I might invest some Draft Capital to find out.
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
