State Spartans ~ 5112/198
Intangibles: Diagnostic Acuity, Field Vision, and, above all: Processing Speed. And of course: Motor. Motor Matters.
Agility: Acceleration, Fluidity, and Closing Speed. And of course: Verticity!! Turning & Burning in Direct Coverage.
Pass Prevention: Combat Skills in Coverage, and Timing, Vertical Burst, and WingSpan at the Catch Point.
Run Support: Appetite, Tactical Discipline, and Combat Skills ~ working through Traffic & Tackling Mechanics.
Agility: Mediocre. Adequate Acceleration and Closing Speed, but deficient Fluidity and inferior Verticity. He'd have some serious problems in Off Coverage, I think. Press or Zone Coverage would be a far better match.
Pass Prevention: Awesome. In Press Coverage, Dennard has developed Core Power and Combat Skills and is outstanding at the Mechanics of impeding a WideOut's progress without getting flagged for it. At the Catch Point, he's remarkably instinctive, consistently exhibits an exceptional sense of Timing, and is more than adequately brutal!!
Run Support: Solid. A very wiling Defender, and a moderately adept Tackler. Far better than most Corners.
But like many exceptionally skilled CornerBacks before'm, I believe he will do just that. One amusing aspect of adjusting to The Next Level is refining one's Timing and remastering the subtleties and nuances of how to perpetrate DownField Contact without actually getting flagged...But as Darrell Revis mastered that Craft, so shall Darqueze Dennard.
He's going to be an outstanding CornerBack, provided the right Team drafts'm.
Ask'm to play in Off Coverage and he will struggle immensely. Concerns about his Agility are absolutely and completely warranted. His Long Speed is all right, but his Fluidity is lousy, and he will get dusted early and often.
But let him play Press Coverage, where he can disrupt Routes at their stems and harass his man all the way DownField, watching always the QuarterBack, ever ready to pounce, and I believe that he will be extraordinary. His combination of Field Vision, Processing Speed, and well developed Combat Skills are absolutely perfect for that.
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
