Possesses only average initial burst off the snap as an in-line run blocker and although he does a good job of getting under the pad level of opposing linemen, he has a tendency to get overextended into contact and fall off blocks. Is easily slipped after his initial surge, and even then he doesn't generate much movement off the football. Isn't real natural on the move either, but exhibits decent straight-line speed and body control for his size. Has the ability to occasionally lunge into defenders and cut them down at the second level.
Impression: Lacks the necessary length and overall balance as a blocker to stay on defenders through contact in both the run and pass game at the next level."
Positive: Fires off the snap, explosive at the point of attack, and moves well on his feet. Displays the ability to slide in space on passing downs and is quick if asked to pull across the line of scrimmage. Redirects to linebackers and shows the ability to hit a moving target. Keeps his feet moving throughout the action, bends his knees, and blocks with leverage. Keeps his head on a swivel and displays good awareness. Very effective with shotgun snap.
Negative: Lacks true strength at the point of attack and struggles finishing blocks. Has growth limitations.
Analysis: Genus possesses a terrific lineman E(TM)s build as well as the quickness and the movement skills to be used in a zone blocking system. Could get looks as a backup for a team willing to overlook his lack of height."
In 2007, as a true freshman he saw time as an offensive line backup in 6 games.
In 2008, he was used as a reserve DT, and didn't return to the O-line until spring practices of '09.
Started all 25 games at Center his junior and senior years and was named second team all-Big East in 2009, and first-team in 2010.
Strengths: Big, broad run-game mauler. Gets off the snap quickly, and hands are right into his man immediately. Keeps low and keeps pushing in the run game. Can handle average NTs 1-on-1. Quick feet. Very nice pass pro drop steps. Can be used as a reserve DT as well as backup center. Athletic.
Weaknesses: Short, with short arms. Bowling ball body. Will miss when reach blocking and fall flat on his face. Has plays during a game where he touches nobody. Not great at fitting on moving targets on the second level. Can pull, but doesn't always finish when he does. Not ideal either for a zone-blocking team, or a power team. Has the look of a career backup.
Projection: 7th rounder, who would be a FA steal if he isn't drafted."
