Isn't real comfortable in the pocket. Showcases good toughness and is willing to stare down the barrel of the shotgun and take a lick. However, needs to do a better job moving his feet and buying time for himself. Too often seems to get caught flat-footed and just drift backward in the pocket, causing him to fall off throws and be inaccurate with the football. Showcases a strong arm and has the ability to make all the throws. However, too often be doesn't keep his balance and really stride toward his target. Doesn't routinely transfer his weight correctly and will throw off balance quite a bit, causing his accuracy and ball placement to suffer. Needs to do a better job going through his progression in the pass game as well. Trusts his big arm too much at times, stares down his initial read and will simply try to force the football into tight areas. When he doesn't have a clean pocket to throw from he will get a bit of a wind up going in his motion trying to simply muscle it toward his target, but again it causes his accuracy to suffer.
Impression: A big kid with a good arm, but his lack of feel and overall athleticism causes him to drift too often in the pocket and he doesn't have the footwork to quickly reset his feet and find a secondary target. Doesn't look like an NFL draftable QB to me."
Arm Strength: Only an average arm, but still could succeed in the NFL in a patient offense staying with short and intermediate throws. Adept at making quick decisions to unload the ball. Makes shorter throws while being wrapped up by defenders or slinging the ball out under pressure, but also forces some throws in that situation. Willing to throw passes down the seam or in tight spaces, though his arm is not strong enough to beat defenders to the spot if he doesn't see them closing; this leads to interceptions. Deep ball will float, especially when his feet are not set.
Setup/Release: Looks like an NFL pocket passer. Stands tall and unloads the ball relatively quickly, with only a minor wind-up. Delivers the ball knowing he's about to take a hit. Can throw at different angles if needed. Works primarily from under center but will line up in the shotgun. Carries the ball a bit low and loose at times, defenders can easily swat it out of his hands. Must improve his footwork; takes extra steps in his drop, will jump back before planting. Regularly pats the ball before throwing. Unnecessarily stands flat-footed to throw some passes.
Reading Defenses: Long-time starter in a quasi-pro style offense, who has earned the ability to change protections and plays at the line of scrimmage. Will check down to safety valve if first option is covered. Needs to sell the ball fake more aggressively to freeze linebackers and safeties. Feels pressure well, sometimes too well; his feet get a bit happy if running out of time. Will force throws into coverage both because he doesn't see defenders and because he tries to make plays that aren't there.
On the Move: Good internal clock, counts to three and gets out of the pocket. Able to complete passes running to his left or right. Mobile enough to step up or to either side, reset, and find a target downfield. Lacks speed to break off long runs, will get a few yards if stepping up into a vacated area. Inconsistent tucking the ball away if feeling pressure and unable to throw.
Intangibles: Battle-tested, four-year starter who has seen great highs and lows during his career - and matured through the process. Honor student who graduated early from high school to attend Idaho."
Enderle has good size and experience.
With solid stats in four seasons at Idaho, Enderle enters the 2011 NFL Draft as a fairly under-rated prospect that could surprise some people. With the perfect size and experience in a Pro Style system, Ebderle could be the perfect find for the right team in need of a smart, able quarterback.
Strengths
Is a very big quarterback with a solid frame. Doesn’t have a huge arm, but has proven he can make nearly all the throws. Has displayed solid and consistent accuracy, with the ability to lead his receivers perfectly. Has great experience as a four-year starter. Not always the best decision-maker, but has shown clutch ability. Has experience in a Pro Style offense, so learning curve should be shorter than others in his draft class. Solid overall numbers throughout his career. Comfortable in the pocket, as he’s very poised and makes great decisions when well protected. Not a great athlete or runner, but uses his feet extremely well for placement and setting up his throws. Reportedly scored a 41 on the Wonderlic test.
Weaknesses
Doesn’t have great arm strength. Has great experience, but has been downright awful against elite competition. Not overly accurate on deep balls, and can be shaky overall at times, especially when heavily pressured. Not very mobile, and not a great overall athlete. Tends to force some throws and simply make bad decisions when plays break down or when the pocket collapses. Needs to refine or quicken throwing motion to avoid turnovers. Forcing the ball and restlessness in the pocket leads to too many turnovers. Doesn’t appear to realize his arm strength is only average, and will try to fit balls into small areas that don’t look possible. Mechanics can be inconsistent, as he doesn’t always take the same approach in his stance and motion.
Draft Range
Enderle is a big, poised quarterback with decent arm strength and solid potential. He simply suffers from trusting his average arm too much, and making bad decisions. His pocket presence is solid, but still inconsistent, which leads to turnovers and forced throws. Good coaching can correct a huge amount of his flaws, making him a very viable mid-round selection, and possible gem. With a number of solid prospects ahead of him, Enderle is probably looking at a spot in the fifth or sixth round.
NFL Player Comparison: Matt Ryan (less polished)"
Positive: Large, strong-armed passer who must improve his accuracy. Possesses good pocket stature, strong enough to withstand the rush and gets the ball off with defenders draped on him. Has a quick release, gets rid the ball with a flick of the wrist, and all the passes possess terrific velocity. Easily zips the outs, drives the ball downfield, and his passes immediately get to the intended target. Powers the ball through the tight spots, puts air under corner patterns and lets receivers run to the ball. Looks off the safety, locates receivers on the field, and will slide outside the pocket to buy time or give himself a better view of the field.
Negative: Does not always makes proper choices under the rush. Often throws with poor mechanics, releasing the ball off his back foot or not properly following through on throws. Does not display a sense of timing. Does not sense pressure and lacks the ability to elude oncoming rushers.
Analysis: Enderle did a terrific job leading the Idaho offense the past three years and has all the physical skills necessary to play at the next level. That being said, he must improve his mechanics, consistently throw with proper fundamentals, and find a way to become a more accurate passer before he'll break into a starting line-up on the NFL level."
Negatives: Just average arm strength, looks like he'd throw harder than he does... Has some issues when throwing the deep out, defenders are able to jump on some of his throws... Struggles against top competition... In five games against BCS schools, he completed 51 percent of his passes for an average of 165 yards per game and threw only four touchdowns to 13 interceptions... Long throwing motion... Tips some of his passes off by patting the ball before he throws... Doesn't always take a stride while throwing which causes some passes to sail on him... Throws too many interceptions, needs to cut down on mental errors... Trusts his arm far too much, tries to make throws that he has no business making... Has a hard time picking up disguised blitzes and coverages... Not a great runner, is more of a pocket passer."
Strengths: Very competitive leader with strong will-to-win. Able to make all throws and makes solid pre-snap reads and audibles. Among the strongest arm of the QBs in the draft. Good lower body strength and size allows him to deliver ball will taking a hit. Able to roll left or right with good mobility. Has above-average touch on long passes. Willing to work hard.
Weaknesses: Has slower release and will hold the ball too long waiting for a receiver to come open. Arm strength is just average and tends to float the pass when in trouble. Overall accuracy is a concern, as well as high INT ratio. Should be able to overcome these issues with good coaching and development.
Projection: 6th round. Had a rough start at Shrine Bowl workouts, but impressed as the week went on."
It was in 2009 when Enderle led the Vandals to great things. The Vandals topped off their 7-5 campaign with a victory over Bowling Green in the Humanitarian Bowl, reaching their first bowl game since 1998. The development of Enderle was certainly a key part of that success. The quarterback once again improved his completion percentage and this time threw 22 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. That was Enderle's big year, since only three other starters returned on offense to join Enderle in 2010.
Enderle's 6-5, 233 pound frame is what makes him a quality late round quarterback. However, 6-5 appears to be a little generous and 6-4 is probably more accurate, but either way Enderle has the size and experience to step into an NFL team and be a quality third quarterback right away."
