Positive: Large, nasty blocker who plays with terrific power. Bends his knees, gets leverage on opponents, and is very strong in his all-around game. Controls defenders once engaged at the point of attack, easily turns them off the line, and drives them into the ground. Keeps his head on a swivel, works well with teammates, and stays square.
Negative: Stiff and ineffective in motion. Only good in a very small area.
Analysis: Maddux has been a terrific lineman at Central Michigan the past two seasons and is a strong blocker who would fit well as a backup in a power running offense."
Strengths: Blue-collar player who usually finds a way to get the job done despite limitations. Takes false steps but gets adequate hand placement and drives legs once locked on; tends to bend at waist and may slide off blocks but also shows the ability to move defenders off the ball. Shows adequate lateral mobility when asked to zone bock. Flashes a strong initial punch and gets sound hand placement. Doesn't give much ground to bull rushers.
Weaknesses: Lacks speed to get consistently around the center when asked to pull; inconsistent footwork and just adequate athletic ability are also negative. Has some problems getting a body on linebackers at the second level. Can slide with pass rushers in one direction but struggles to recover when he bites on double move.
