Positive: Reliable possession wide out with poor size/speed numbers. Sells routes, adjusts to the errant throw, and tracks the ball well. Quick transitions from making the catch to running after the reception, keeps the play inbounds, and works to pick up positive yardage. Comes back to the quarterback to make himself an available target, extends his hands, and consistently makes the reception away from his frame. Displays good focus and a sturdy receiver who gets vertical over defenders to high point passes.
Negative: Lacks a burst and is a one-speed receiver who does not get deep separation. Displays marginal quickness in his game. Not a fluid or smooth receiver.
Analysis: Hamler is coming off a pair a productive seasons and although reliable, he offers limited upside for the next level. He'll make it as a fifth receiver on a roster if he produces on special teams."
Negatives: Ran much slower than expected at the combine... Poor run blocker, is very weak and doesn't always take on defenders... Better working vertically than in the middle of the field... Drops some easy passes... Should have returned to school for his senior season... Was not a dominant playmaker in college, only had 11 career touchdowns... Had some academic issues early in his career forcing him to redshirt his sophomore season... Could work on his route running, slows down before cutting and looks more comfortable running deep routes rather than working underneath."
Junior WR who declared for the 2011 draft - second-team All-WAC selection; led Dogs in all receiving categories in 2010 (54-812 yards, 6 TDs). Jamel was 2nd on the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2009 (37-503, 5 TDs)
Strengths: Great size and speed combination with good hands and athletic ability. Sets up DBs and can break the jam. Makes big plays on offense with decent run-after-catch ability. Willing to go across the middle and catch in traffic. Tough, smart and dedicated to the craft.
Weaknesses: Still can improve route running - will tend to round-off routes and needs to attack every route at full speed. Experience against elite competition is wanting - may need a season to develop. Not a kick-returner in college. Would have benefited from senior year of seasoning, particularly in the talented WR class of 2011.
Projection: 6-7th round."
