Displays an above-average anchor on contact when asked to pass block and although he's more of a waist bender, he does do a nice job getting his hands inside, extending his arms and can really stick to blocks. However, he isn't real explosive out of his stance in the pass game and really looks tight hipped and stiff when asked to change directions and get out of his breaks. Lumbers down the field and will really struggle to separate at the next level.
Impression: Possesses good size and above-average blocking ability, but doesn't offer much at all in the pass game and will have a tough time making an NFL roster."
Positive: Big tight end who is best as a blocker. Blocks with terrific fundamentals, strong at the point, and works hard. Stays square, keeps defenders in front of him, and turns opponents off the line as a run blocker. Bends his knees, keeps his feet moving, and is solid in pass protection. Has adequate hands as a receiver. Tough and will play through pain.
Negative: Marginal speed and not effective as a receiver more than a few yards from the line of scrimmage. Must do a better job coming back to the ball rather than waiting for it to come to him.
Analysis: Smith is one of the better blocking tight ends in this draft and could be carried as a on a roster as the third man on the depth chart."
