Is a bit inconsistent keeping his base down and at times will get doubled over at the waist, but it looks more like a case of a guy being more comfortable bending at the waist at this stage than not being able to bend at the knees. And I think it would be correctable with some time. Showcases good balance and body control on the move at the second level and through contact.
Isn't overly powerful in the lower half, but maintains balance, has good hand placement and works his legs hard through contact. Routinely takes proper angles toward the defender and has the ability to kick out on contact. Is unconventional at times when asked to seal away from the play, but he's athletic enough to get away with some poor technique and lunging into blocks; the key is the athletic ability is there.
Isn't real technically sound in pass protection at this stage either. Isn't real natural sitting into his stance from a three-point stance and gets bent over at the waist. However, has a quick first step, sets quickly and does a nice job using his hands/punch to get into the frame of defenders and move his feet throughout contact.
Has a tendency to row his arms through the play and doesn't really sit back into his stance to re-anchor, but is heavy handed, gains leverage because of his hands and is tough to disengage from. Exhibits solid range to the corner, gets overextended with his footwork and isn't polished at all with a kick slide yet, but possesses good lateral ability and quickness when asked to slide in space and recovers quickly in pass protection.
Impression: Has a long ways to go, but the athletic skill set is there. Does some really nice things for a guy who hasn't played offensive tackle long and is a nice developmental later-round pick who can take a year to two to develop and could end up maturing into a solid NFL lineman if someone is willing to be patient with him. Played very well this year for a guy who only starting playing offensive line full time in the spring of 2010."
