Is better suited to take that quick bucket step and seal than just drive someone off the line. Needs to do a better job getting off the snap count on time as well, can be slow to get out of his stance and too often is the last guy moving off the ball. Showcases average range when asked to pull, does a decent job hitting a target and sealing through the hole, but lacks ideal body control in space, struggles to redirect, doesn't consistently break down and ends up on the ground too often at times. Isn't real sudden in dropping his pad level either when asked to cut defenders down at the line and struggles to routinely get into their frame. But displays a bit of a mean streak when asked to finish blocks and plays until the whistle.
Isn't a real natural bender in the pass game either. Struggles to really sit into his stance off the edge, allows himself to get doubled over at the waist and too often his momentum is positioned on his toes. Isn't real technically sound yet on his kick-slide, seems content to simply open up his outside foot and try to mirror laterally in space. Possesses slightly above-average lateral quickness in space and overall range toward the edge, but doesn't do a good job keeping his pads up and set ready to punch. Too often keeps his arms down by his waist, has a wind up into contact and wastes too much motion. Displays heavy hands into contact and does a better job mirroring through contact, lowers his pad level when engaged and can anchor, but still has a long ways to go.
Impression: Is a good-sized kid with average NFL athleticism for a guy his size. However, he's still a major work in progress with his technique in pass pro and his overall pad level and looks more like a developmental late round/free agent right tackle."
Positive: Tall, heavy-footed offensive tackle who is best in a small area. Bends his knees, blocks with a wide base, and is large enough to turn defenders off the ball. Gets after blocks, actively uses his hands, and keeps his feet moving. Stays square and effectively uses his frame to shield defenders from the action. Does a good job blocking with leverage for such a large man.
Negative: Lacks footwork sliding out off the edge. Struggles to adjust and exploited by speed rushers. Stiff and ineffective in motion.
Analysis: Porter is a size prospect who did well on the small school level but offers limited upside for the next level."
