Lacks much suddenness to his game and isn't a guy who can shed and make plays consistently off his frame. But he has a good enough first step to occasionally gain a step off the ball and work his way up the field. Does a good job finding the football and routinely works his way toward the play.
Is at his best as a bull rusher off the snap in the pass game. Plays low, fires out of his stance with some pop, can gain leverage and works his strong legs well through the play. Again, lacks the suddenness or lateral quickness to slip the block. But can work his way into the backfield one-on-one and push the pocket at times.
Impression: A thick, sturdy space eater who can anchor vs. the run game and push the pocket in the pass game. Isn't real laterally gifted and doesn't use his hands well enough to shed blocks. But looks like a guy who can work his way into a rotation as a solid two-down run defender."
Positive: Explosive one-gap penetrator who has good quickness. Easily redirects to ball carriers and can turn it on in a single step.
Negative: Easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Displays little in the way of moves or hand technique. Lacks great upside.
Analysis: Grant is a potential backup three-technique lineman at the next level if he shows any ability on special teams."
Weaknesses: Doesn't have great initial quickness off the snap. His lateral quickness is adequate at best and he doesn't penetrate much into the opponent's backfield. Limited range and lacks good closing speed on the ball carrier. Doesn't generate much as a pass rusher and his only go-to move is a bull rush.
Projection: UDFA. Grant should get an opportunity to show his talent as a training camp invite."
On the year he tallied 5.5 sacks, but in the middle of the defensive line Grant did a lot more than the numbers do not show. On many occasions, Grant would collapse the pocket and allow his teammates to make the big play. Grant had a drop off in production during his senior campaign, totaling 18 tackles, 5.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks.
However, he again was the catalyst behind many quarterback hurries and sacks that his teammates finished off. Yet, it is that lack of production that is a cause for concern for many NFL teams. Grant is a tough player, but there are stronger interior linemen out there who will wow scouts.
Grant will not be too impressive in pre-draft workouts and that will keep him as a late round draft pick at best. Grant has a good chance of making an NFL team since he does his best work on the field and once he gets on the field coaches will find him tough to take off."
