Is more quick and sudden than fast. Looks natural side-stepping blocks in pursuit of the football, but lacks great range outside the box.
Lacks the size to take on blocks inside at the point of attack when run at, is easily washed out of plays and knocked off balance easily vs. any type of contact. Strengths: Productive leader for KSU. Has good lateral movement and is a sideline-to-sideline run defender. Has great closing speed and can chase backs down from behind - strong tackling skills. Very active with his feet and hands to keep him free as he moves to pursue the ball carrier. Gets to depth and shows above-average range in zone coverage. Quick and fluid enough to match up with backs and tight ends in man coverage. Isn't a powerful pass rusher but can find seams in the protection to get pressure. Able to slip blockers and uses his above-average burst to shoot gaps.
Weaknesses: Route-recognition skills are just adequate and can take false steps in man coverage; lacks elite skill on the ball. Just average height and below average-weight will be a concern at ILB - will not win most downhill battles. Will need to improve man coverage skills to move to OLB.
