He exhibits decent initial balance/body control off the edge, but doesn't trust his anchor and too often gets overextended into contact. He keeps his hands up ready to punch and does a nice job maximizing his length into contact.
However, his weight too often ends up on his toes, he loses balance into contact and lacks the type of short area quickness needed to make up for a false step. He falls off too many blocks and, despite his average initial range to the edge, struggles to re-direct and mirror with any kind of consistency.
Hoffman showcases natural quickness off the ball when looking to step and seal, but he struggles to gain leverage into contact consistently in the run game with his lower half.
He does a nice job getting his hands under the pad level of defenders, but is often too high into contact and struggles to stick through contact on any kind of slide down blocks. He exhibits solid range getting into the second level, can breakdown in space and is adept to getting into defenders down the field.
Impression: Hoffman plays too high for an offensive tackle, let alone a guard. He lacks ideal range, struggles with lateral quickness and isn't going to be able to anchor consistently at any spot in the NFL."
