I like DaQuan Bowers, but I think his ability to Rush the Passer is highly overrated. He's pretty good against the Run, and he can certainly pick up Sacks against weaker opponents...But this is a guy who only turned in on in his Contract Year, and simply doesn't strike me as extraordinary. But in a weak Class, he's projected to go Top 10.

As always, the preceding thoughts were regurgitated, derivative tripe, adding no value whatsoever, while in fact obliterating intelligent thought and offending the spirit of all decent men. You are now stupider for having read it, and are encouraged, in the strongest possible language, never to expose your eyes to this Site again.

Robert Quinn is a magnificent Pass Rushing machine.
He needs a lot of work in the Run Game, but his Pass Rushing repertoire could make him a Star.

Cameron Jordan offers an extraordinary fusion of Pass Rushing skills and Run Defense. He is the most well rounded Defensive End in this Draft Class, and could certainly play in either a 30 Base or a 40. He is projected as a Top 15, and that is completely justified: He's one of the very best Prospects in the entire Draft.

JJ "Dynomite" Watt is THE Alpha "30" Defensive End of this entire Draft Class.
His repertoire of OUTRAGEOUS Strength + Power, combined with stunning Lateral Agility and IMMEASURABLE Passion, Perseverance, and Tenacity, place him head and shoulders above any other Anchor End, in my book.
Others, like Robert Quinn and Aldon Smith ~ and perhaps DaQuan Bowers ~ will get more Sacks...But a team looking for a balanced fusion of Strength against the Run combined with Pass Rushing Power could NOT do better than JJ Watt, this year. He's still raw, and still needs to grow into his frame, but this recent Tight End Conversion is rapidly ascending to his full capacity, and he is one of the very most passionate and dedicated men in the entire Draft: I have no doubt, none at all, that he'll make the most of his considerable skills.
Ascending Star!!

Adrian Clayborn seems, to me, like a guy who's exceptional Anchoring Power, great Hands, and outstanding Punch are going to enable him to forge a solid career, despite his size. But I do believe that his height ~ 6.25 ~ and his short arms ~ 32.5 ~ are going to dramatically limit his effectiveness as a Pro.
He is currently projected for the 1st Round, but my belief is that that ranking is a function of a successfull college career for a big school, and not his potential as a Pro.
I consider the guy a 3rd Rounder.

Ryan Kerrigan is one of my very favorite players in this Draft Class, Estimated Draft Position aside: He is an utterly voracious worker, an highly intelligent student of the Game, a dedicated Gym Rat, strong as an Ox, and a savvy and instinctive player.
However, he doesn't have much Burst, Lateral Agility, or a very good Anchor.
The guy is a tremendous competitor, and I believe he'll forge a long career. But I just don't believe that his skill set is going to allow him to play anywhere near as well in the Pros as he did in college. He's the kind of player that I would absolutely LOVE to draft in the 3rd Round, but of course he's projected to go in the 1st.

Aldon Smith is the most explosive Pass Rusher in this entire Draft Class.
He is a potentially devastating Weapon, with a rich Repertoire of moves, and blessed with natural Burst, Grace, Fluidity, Lateral Agility, and Speed.
And he's got the frame and the mentality to develop into a solid Run Defender.
Upside: Super Star.

Cameron Heyward is, arguably, the most solid Defensive End in this Draft Class: He is stout against the Run. He consistently Anchors well. He has big, violent hands, and tremendous Technique. He's got the Power to drive his man back and persistently crush Pockets. And his Processing Speed ~ Pass/Run Recognition ~ is exceptional.
He doesn't have a great Burst, and he's not going to be a dominant Pass Rusher, but I am very confident that Cameron Heyward projects to forge a long and very successfull career as a vital part of his team's Front Wall.

Jabaal Sheard has the potential to develop into one of the top 3 Pass Rush Forces in this entire Draft Class. He has tremendous Burst, powerfull Hands, and excellent Speed.
He's not particularly good against the Run, as he's not the biggest guy in the world, but he plays good Contain.
OutStanding Processing Speed to Read and React.

Christian Ballard is an explosive play maker, a tremendous athlete who could play for any Defensive Scheme, but I believe his best bet would be in the 40, where he could play the Rush End. He's got a powerfull Burst, tremendous Fluidity, and exceptional Lateral Agility. He's a threat to hit the Quarter Back every single time.
He can use some work against the Run, and he plays too high, too often. But as a projected 2nd Rounder, this guy is an awfully good Value.

Allen Bailey makes me nervous.
He's got an exceptionally strong Base, a chiseled form, and commands excellent Speed for a man of his size. He's got a good Crouch, and a strong Burst.
But he's awful with his Hands, displays bad Technique, is often slow out of the gate, and demonstrates particularly weak Processing Speed ~ Read + React.
He prefers to shoot for End in a 40 Scheme, where he can just pin his ears back and Rush the Passer, and that makes sense. I'm just not sure how good he's going to be.

10 months ago, Greg Romeus was a consensus Top 10 Pick. But after a NIGHTMARE Senior season, his stock has gone the way of Ricky Sapp's, a year ago, and plummeted all the way to the Mid Round ~ 3rd to 5th ~ range.
And well it might: after a torn ACL AND Back surgery, Greg Romeus has probably been crossed off some team's boards, all together.
But the lad is healing.
And imagine if he simply fully recovers...and reclaims all the Strength, Speed, and Power he had, a year ago??
We're talking about a 6.5/264 athlete who has the Power, the Burst, and the Extension to Set the Edge AND Rush the Passer, and those types are extremely rare.
MIND you: he played with a pretty dubious Crouch when he was healthy, which hampered both his Anchoring and his Rush Games: If I was drafting for 40 Scheme, I might not draft this kid at all. I'd certainly want to see if he was building up his lower body strength to support that healing back...and to improve his Crouch.
But as a Flanker ~ that's "OutSide LineBacker" to you Earthlings!! ~ in 30 Scheme ~ say, in Coach Belichick's, where Setting the Edge is as important as Rushing The Passer?? That would be a damned good match up.
The term "Sleeper" has of course evolved to mean "Value", as any afficionado of The Draft has heard of most of the alleged "Sleepers." But as "Sleeper" sounds much cooler than "Value" ~ which evokes thoughts of K Mart ~ I'll just keep rolling with "Sleeper" if there're no strong objections!!
Super Sleeper!!

Steven Friday is pretty raw, yet pretty old, as he'll be 25 when next season begins ~ regardless of when next season begins. That's a bad combination, and probably explains his current ADP ~ Approximate Draft Position ~ which lies on the very fringe of Free Agency.
He cannot Set the Edge, and he has a pretty damned weak Crouch, consistently coming out of the blocks too low.
However, he has some pretty sweet Pass Rush moves, terrific Extension, great Hands, Burst, and Violence.
He's listed at Defensive End, which is possible in a 40 Scheme if he can add another 20 or 30 pounds to that frame.
But his destiny is probably that of a Rush Flanker ~ OLB, to you Earthlings!! ~ in a 30 Scheme.
And he could be a damned dangerous one.

Craig Marshall needs work on his Technique, as he plays too high too often. This is usually something that can be improved upon, however, with enough Core Strength Training.
And he has a tremendous Frame for this Game ~ 6.5/275 with lengthy arms ~ combined with tremendous Fluidity and Lateral Agility. His Game is certainly raw, but the combination of Extension, Power, and Athleticism is very rare, and if he and the right coaching crew can harness his extraordinary set of skills, he could become a Force.

Christian Anthony had an Heart Attack, last August, and there are many teams ~ perhaps all of them, for all I know ~ who will simply refuse to draft the kid. And that would be a damned shame. Because the kid has MONSTER Potential.
MIND you: there're some Red Flags: He is NOTORIOUSLY undisciplined in assignments. The interview process is particularly important with young Mister Anthony, because if I were checking him out, I'd want to question him directly about blown assignments, Free Lancing, and what his intentions are in the NFL. Ironically, it's very possible that the heart attack ~ a life changing event, if there ever was one ~ may turn out, at the end of the day, to have been a blessing in disguise, for a wake up call was certainly in order.
Christian Anthony was an absolutely spectacular player in college, and an emotional and inspiring team mate. We can only hope, first, that the heart attack was either a freak occurrence that Doctors can convincingly explain as such, or a warning to change his life style ~ IF it was behavior related ~ that he will heed, and heed well. Second, would be the hope that the process has inspired him to take inventory, as they say, and realize, among other, more celestial things, that Championship FootBall comes not from Free Lancing, but from working with 10 other men, one play at a time, which means, in the lexicon of Coach Bill Belichick: "Do Your Job."
As a prospect, Christian Anthony offers an outstanding fusion of Power, Speed, Strength, and Athleticism: He is, indeed, that rare Athlete ~ 6.5/275 ~ who can effectively Rush the Passer AND Set the Edge. He has potential as either an End in a 40 Scheme, or as a Flanker ~ OutSide Line Backer, to you Earthlings!! ~ in a 30 Scheme. Should he check out, medically, and if he has, indeed, learned, via this life threatening wake up call, the true value of playing as part of a team for the entire game, he could forge a tremendous career.
