Run Blocking ~ Phenomenal.
Pass Blocking ~ Spectacular.
Well, this one's easy.
Chance Warmack has it all:
Core Strength to withstand the onslaught of vicious, marauding Defensive Tackles.
Core Power to attack the aforementioned vicious, marauding Defensive Tackles.
And he's surprisingly Mobile, bringing an effective Burst to the table, as well.
Chance Warmack has nothing less than SuperStar Potential.
He has the Talent to rack up a dozen Pro Bowls, and both the Passion and the Intelligence to make that happen.
Offensive Guards continue, unfathomably, to get ignored and devalued, despite what seems to me to be an obvious and consistently enormous Impact on their Team's fate ~ especially in the PlayOffs, when high scoring teams that can't win in the Trenches when it counts fade away, while low scoring Teams that can win in the Trenches when it counts tend to emerge from the shadows and advance far into the PlayOffs...and often go All The Way.
2 ~ SE Justin Hunter ~ Tennessee Volunteers @ #34 ~ Red Alert!! Big Gamble!! 4th Round Ranking.
Release ~ Not good. Trouble with physical Corners.
Routing ~ Raw.
Separation ~ Poor. Dubious Fluidity & Ricochet.
Catching ~ Awful. Absolutely brutal. We can only hope it was somehow related to returning from Injury.
Navigation ~ Inconsistent. Dances too much.
Blocking ~ Bad Frame for it, but gives good Effort.
Justin Hunter commands a Fusion of Size & Speed unequaled in this remarkably deep & talented Wide Out Class.
But his Game is Years behind his raw Skill Set.
He may yet develop into what he can be...But I wouldn't bet heavily on that Possibility.
3 ~ CB Blidi Wreh ~ Connecticut Huskies @ #70 ~ Reach. Gave'm a 5th Round Ranking.
Nothing against the kid, who I believe will work hard and earn a decent Career. I just think he lacks the Verticity to consistently Flip Hips to Turn & Burn in Coverage and will thus be a perpetual Liability.
4 ~ FD Zaviar Gooden ~ Missouri Tigers @ #97 ~ Outstanding Pick!! Gave'm a 2nd Ranking!!
Run Defense ~ A bit Raw, but with considerable UpSide. Gooden showcases outstanding Lateral Agility & Range to all points of the Compass, but his Processing Speed isn't quite as impressive, yet, which costs him Tackles. As a Tackler, he commands outstanding Core Strength and extremely explosive Burst & Closing Speed.
Pass Defense ~ Impressive and with immense UpSide. His Processing Speed hurts him here, too, mind you, as he's often late to Diagnose Plays: This is a raw Prospect, here. But his Verticity is outstanding in Man Coverage.
Pass Rush ~ Not much'f a factor in the Pass Rush, but as a 434 Will Flanker, that won't be a big part'f'is Job.
Intangibles ~ Inconsistent Processing Speed, at present, and there's a considerable gap between his Raw Agility & Athleticism and'is performance on the Field. In'is Defense, though, he was recruited as a Defensive Back.
Zaviar Gooden is certainly raw, but there's oodles of Raw Athletic Talent to work with, here.
He clearly projects to 434 Will Flanker at The Next Level, and he's a bit of a Gamble because he's so Raw, but if he and a Coaching Staff can harness his phenomenal Athleticism & Agility ~ he was #1 in The 40, The 3 Cone, and in the Short Shuttle!! ~ he could evolve into a raging Beast!!
5 ~ OC Brian Schwenke ~ California Bears @ #107 ~ Exceptional Pick!! Gave'm a 2nd Round Ranking!!
Brian Schwenke is my favorite Center in this Draft Class, regardless of Value.
He's no Hall of Fame Talent, mind you, but Brian Schwenke brings truly outstanding Core Strength to the table, combined with Lightning Fast Launch Velocity off the Snap, tremendous Fluidity in redirecting his Attack, terrific Lateral Agility, excellent Dexterity, and exceptional Diagnostic Capacity and Processing Speed.
He doesn't project much Drive Power, mind you: Defensive Tackles aren't going to be cowering in fear, I don't think.
His exceptional Core Strength should serve'm extremely well in defending his QuarterBack, but I don't expect to see'm tearing too many gaping holes in the center of Defenses, nor Pancaking too many Defensive Tackles.
And his Game is still somewhat unrefined, due to'is having but a single year at the Pivot.
But taken as an whole, he's the best Center in this Draft, in my allegedly humble opinion.
Schwenke's outstanding Core Strength will take him a long ways, I think. As the changes in Rules continue to push This Great Game towards more and more Passing, Defenses will need to continue to field increasingly smaller Defensive Fronts ~ as I waxed on about, last Summer ~ which I believe means that the Bull Market in behemoth Nose Tackles is only just getting started. Consequently, Explosive Fire Hydrants like Schwenke who can actually stand up to these Monstrosities and consistently hold'is ground against'm in the Pass Rush...will be invaluable.
And while I might jest about'is current lack of exceptional Drive Power, my money's on him developing it.
Brian Schwenke has the raw tools to become a complete Center ~ something I can not say about any other Center in this Draft Class ~ and I believe that his success at the next level is going to shock a lot of people.
I thought that the Justin Hunter Pick was awful, and that this was compounded by the spectacular stupidity of giving up not only #216 to move up from #40 to #34...but throwing in a 2014 3rd Rounder!! Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid!!
And I didn't like the Blidi Wreh Hyphenator Pick, either.
But getting Chance Warmack at #10 ~ and, no: I don't give a rat's ass how many people think that drafting Offensive Guards that early is a mistake!! ~ was a great move, and I thought that Tennessee really racked it up by getting Gooden ~ a Boom or Bust guy, mind you!! ~ and Schwenke when they did!!
