My Pet SuperBinkie of the 2013 Draft sure's Hell came a long, long way from being described as a UFA, didn't he??
Derek Hayden is a Pet SuperBinky of mine, and has been since before a single Draft Pundit even mentioned him.
And I see no reason, despite the fact that he was recently projected as a UFA, to pull punches, here: He commands the exhilarating Verticity, the Fluidity, the Savvy, the Physicality, and the Intelligence & Savvy to become great.
QuarterBacks fear him.
And well they ought.
2 ~ OT Menelik Watson of Florida State @ #42 ~ Terrific Pick!! Had'm Graded as a 1st Rounder!!
Menelik Watson is one of my favorite Stories of this Draft Class: A former Soccer Player and Power Forward ~ yes: Power Forward ~ who only just started playing FootBall in 2011 but yet commands a truly intoxicating fusion of Power, Size, Strength, and Athleticism, Watson's most impressive Attribute is, nevertheless, his Processing Speed.
When all is said and done, there is a very real chance that he'll develop into a SuperStar.
And yet, because of pedestrian Numbers at the Combine, this recent Media Favorite's Stock is sliding.
3 ~ FD Sio Moore of Connecticut @ #66 ~ Solid Pick. I in fact had'm graded as a 2nd/3rd Rounder!!
Sio Moore isn't exceptionally Athletic, but he is exceptionally Savvy and appreciative of the Power of Paying Attention to Details, and I believe that that will go a long way at The Next Level. His Range sucks, but he can overcome most of that with superior Execution, and he'll be adept both in Pass Coverage and in the Pass Rush.
4 ~ QB Tyler Wilson of Arkansas @ #112 ~ Outstanding Pick!! Had'm graded as a 2nd Rounder!!
The first thing to know about Tyler Wilson is that he consider his Pocket his Command, and that he considers his TeamMates his Troops. The Tape makes it clear that he will not abandon the Pocket until the very last moment, and that he will exert every last effort ~ and withstand whatever punishment this costs him ~ to Make a Play.
That may come off as ludicrously, pathetically theatrical, but the fact is: Tyler Wilson is precisely that John Wayne.
And it works.
It's clear that his Troops believe in'm.
And well they should.
Tyler Wilson has the Balls, Courage, Arrogance and Dedication to Excellence to stand in the Pocket for as long he deems it wise to do so ~ and often far beyond that Marker ~ and he also commands the Processing Speed, the Field Vision, and the Accuracy, Near & Far ~ though especially Near ~ to take the Hit and Move The Chains.
That, Ladies & Laddies...are what Championships are made of.
Tyler Wilson's Pocket Presence is extraordinary.
He doesn't Panic.
He doesn't Flee.
Mind you: He forces too many Throws, he needs Work on'is Drop, and his Mechanics in general could use polishing.
But, all in all, he's got the Core Mentality and the Talent...to become an extraordinary Field General.
5 ~ TE Nick Kasa of Colorado @ #172 ~ Excellent Pick. No Report, but I gave'm a 4th/5th Round Grade.
Nick Kasa is a bit stiff, and is very raw, having just converted from Defensive End one Year ago, but I really like this kid, and I really like this Pick. I see him as having good Potential to develop into a strong Blocker and a Chain Mover in the Receiving Game. Not much Elusiveness, but deceptive Long Speed. Tremendous Value for a 6th Rounder!!
6 ~ XB Latavius Murray of Central Florida @ #181 ~ Phenomenal Pick!! I gave'm a 2nd Round Grade!!
Latavius Murray is one Hell of an intriguing Prospect.
I'm afraid he may be a little too Hit or Miss as a Runner, but he's got exceptional Agility and outstanding Speed, and with a little Professional Coaching, he might become extraordinary.
Furthermore, he's already an accomplished Blocker and an outstanding Receiver Prospect. These were developed at Central Florida when he played some Tight End for awhile.
The result is a startlingly complete Package.
Did I mention his 438 Time in the "40"?
At 224 Pounds??
Or that the last 407 Times he's got the Ball ~ in all sorts of different ways ~ he's gone without a single Fumble???
Futhermore, Murrray's remarkable Skill Set means that he could line up as an HalfBack, a FullBack, a WingBack, a SlotBack, a Slot End, or even Split End and Flanker.
This kid, coached right and deployed with imagination, could become an incredibly dangerous Weapon.
7 ~ WB Mychal Rivera of Tennessee @ #176 ~ Excellent Pick. No Report, but a 4th/5th Round Grade.
Rivera isn't a spectacular Athlete or remarkably strong, but he shows tremendous Savvy & Instincts, he's got an excellent Burst out'f the BackField or Off the Line, and he's a tremendous Navigator. I strongly suspect that he's going to prove to be one of those guys who far exceeds his perceived Talent Level and make many Clutch Plays.
8 ~ DR David Bass of Missouri Western @ #233 ~ Excellent Pick!! No Report, but a 4th/5th Round Grade.
Bass isn't explosive, but he commands exceptional Core Strength, he boasts an impressive Repertoire of Moves, and he's an intelligent, athletic Tactician with a tremendous Motor. A remarkable Value in the 7th Round, I believe.
First off, they fleeced the Fish, trading #03 for #12 and #42...and then they nailed both Picks.
Second off, they Traded Back ~ almost always a smart move ~ with the Buccaneers, trading them #100 for #112 and #181...and then they absolutely crushed it with those two Picks.
Third off, they Trade Back again ~ swapping #176 for #184 & #233 ~ and hit on both of those two Picks.
The Raiders started off without a 2nd Round Pick yet ended up hauling in ~ by my woefully unqualified estimation:
2 1st Round Prospects
2 2nd Round Prospects
1 2nd/3rd Rounder
3 4th/5th Rounders
Truly a spectacular Haul.
As I recently indicated in a recent Random Article: I think this Team is returning to Excellence...and soon.
