Sharrif Floyd clearly projects as a penetrating 434 3 Technique Defensive Tackle, and commands a tremendous combination of Attributes that ~ despite a scary dearth of Core Strength & Drive Power as well as a lack of Mechanics & Technique ~ give him a legitimate chance of spectacular Success at The Next Level, I believe.
His Core Strength is awful, as a result of which he'll get killed in the Run Game against Power Schemes. But he boasts explosive Launch Velocity off the Snap, outstanding Paw Power, tremendous Fluidity, and a relentless, raging Motor, which makes me think that he might have great Success against Zone, and perhaps even against Power.
That blistering Launch Velocity, punishing Paw Power, remarkable Athleticism, and raging, roaring Motor potentially make Floyd a Terror as a Pass Rushing 3 Tech in a 434 Scheme. Yet he has little Drive Power to speak of, and I'm not entirely sure that that won't prove to be an hindrance, despite his Burst, Athleticism, & Paw Power.
Even so, there is legitimate Star Potential, here, and the Motor to make it happen.
2 ~ CB Xavier Rhodes ~ Florida State Seminoles @ #25 ~ Huge Reach!! Gave'm a 3rd Round Ranking!!
Processing Speed ~ Not impressive. Makes a lot of bad decisions and sometimes pays heavily for'm.
Verticity ~ His Verticity sucks. Any Team that plays Off or Zone Coverage'd have to be out'f their freaking minds to draft this kid...On the other hand, he commands outstanding Core Strength & Combat Craft, and he clearly enjoys employing these skills as an extremely physical Defender, so he could have a future in Man Coverage.
Run Defense ~ Decent. Rhodes isn't as physical a Run Defender as he's advertised to be, in my view. And he also displays poor Spacial Diagnostics, often taking Bad Angles. Furthermore, he seems to me to be one of those guys who're more interested in making Big Hits than in playing disciplined FootBall and sticking to'is Assignment.
Xavier Rhodes strikes me as one of those guys ~ they are Legion ~ who's going to give you a lot of HighLight Reel Splash Plays, but who will not play sound, steady, disciplined FootBall on a Play to Play basis.
Rhodes is a tough, physical Press Corner, but he's undisciplined and makes mistakes. For somebody with'is horrible Fluidity & Verticity, those could prove to be flat out disastrous at The Next Level, against NFL Caliber WideOuts.
The thing that worries me most about'm, though, is that his propensity for clutching & grabbing speaks to a fundamentally sloppy approach to the Game...one which I fear will prove fatal at The Next Level.
There's Talent to work with, here, but I believe Rhodes is far more of a Gamble than is generally perceived.
3 ~ SE Cord Patterson ~ Tennessee Volunteers @ #29 ~ Spectacular Risk!! Gave'm a 4th Round Grade!!
I just don't get a good feeling about Cord Patterson.
I'm not so concerned about the whispers about'is alleged lack of Intelligence, in and of themselves. But when I look at an inconsistent Motor and dubious Work Ethic ~ especially when a Run is called, which is not only a Red Flag in and of itself but a Tell to the Defense that will hurt'is Team at the Next Level ~ combined with raw Routing, poor Blocking, and difficulty getting Off the Blocks at the Line of Scrimmage against physical CornerBacks, the whispers about dubious Intelligence and unimpressive InterViews at the Combine start to paint an unflattering Profile.
Cord Patterson is a phenomenal PlayMaker...But Championships are usually won by 53 guys who give strong effort Play In and Play Out, not by guys who rack up the HighLights on SportCenter.
He has so much playmaking Talent that he's very likely to get drafted by a team that's willing to tolerate his issues.
And he may well have some success ~ perhaps even a great deal of it.
This is a Boom or Bust type Pick, make no mistake.
The Physical Talent is Top 5.
The whole Package is Day 3.
And those who get it wrong are going to look very foolish.
But, hey...That's why you pay me this Bloated Salary, right??
I've always loved the Vikings, but I have to say that I consider this Draft of theirs to be a resounding Failure!!
I gave 1st, 3rd, and 4th Round Grades to their 3 1st Rounders.
Worst of all, though, might be that horrific trade with my beloved Patriots, where they cashed in no less than 4 juicyy Draft Picks...in order to Trade Up for Cord Patterson!! Zoinks!!
