Boston College Eagles ~ 6003/231
When evaluating MidFielders, these are the Attributes to which I pay most particular attention:
Run Defense ~ Processing Speed, Power, Agility, and Mechanics as he Works Traffic and of course Tackling.
Pass Coverage ~ Processing Speed, Agility, and Verticity. Tackling.
Pass Rush ~ Power, Agility, and Mechanics.
Intangibles ~ Processing Speed, Field Vision, and Motor.
Pass Coverage ~ Inconsistent but with extraordinary Potential. His shaky Field Vision hurts him here, too, of course, but if he can turn that around, he could really become something special, because he exhibits tremendous Verticity in Man Coverage and outstanding Acceleration, Range, and Closing Speed in Zone Coverage.
Pass Rush ~ Impressive and potentially outstanding. His Repertoire is developmental, but he is blessed with remarkable Launch Velocity, surprising though raw and inconsistent Core Power, and magnificent Closing Speed. If he manages to develop 10 more Pounds of Core Beef and develops his Combat Skills, his Potential'd be extraordinary.
Intangibles ~ Shaky!! His Raw Processing Speed is actually tremendous, but it's crippled, currently, by hideous Diagnostic Acuity, which compromises his effective Processing Speed and thus every Aspect of his Game. Great Motor, though.
Based on raw physical skill alone, I'd comfortably place a 1st Round Grade on this kid.
If I added Motor to the equation, the Grade wouldn't budge...It might even inch higher.
But I place enormous emphasis on the cerebral Aspects of this Great Game ~ gigantic emphasis ~ and Pierre Louis's awful Field Vision and Processing Speed, I believe, threaten to cripple his entire FootBall Future.
The Gutters are littered, as I love to say, with the corpses of tremendous Athletes who just could Read & React rapidly enough on the Field of Battle to compete, consistently or effectively, at The Next Level.
But effective Processing Speed can almost always be significantly improved with Time, Work, and Coaching, if the Student has the Intelligence and Drive to do the Work and process the Coaching...and while he's had Academic issues, Pierre Louis is by all accounts an intensely drive hard Worker, and I'll take Drive over Intelligence ever time.
It's an enormous "if", but he does indeed manage to master the Concepts he needs to master, Kevin Pierre Louis will have an extraordinary Future, because he brings a sensation combination of Run Defense, Pass Coverage, and Pass Rush Potential ~ genuine potential to become a dynamic Weapon in all 3 Aspects of this Great Game.
If I he does, he's worth a Top 10 Pick, in my view ~ a State of the Art 21st Century Flank Defender.
A genuine SuperStar.
If he doesn't...he's a Special Teamer ~ a Priority Free Agent!!
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
