One of the most bewildering things, to me, is the lofty status that Matt Elam enjoys in the Draft world.
Sadly, it's almost certainly a reflection of my dramatic lack of Experience at this, and my general Incompetence, that I view his Stock as worth so very little in comparison to the vast majority...
Even so, I have to roll with what I see, and what I see is a short Strong Safety who won't be able to cover anyone at The Next Level, and whose Run Defense seems entirely focused on the ESPN HighLight Reel.
Perhaps I have dramatically misjudged the guy. I have nothing against'm. I just gotta roll with what I see.
2 ~ MF Arthur Brown of Kansas State @ #56 ~ Win!! Big Win!! I gave'm a Top 10 Grade!!
Arthur Brown is a Dream Come True as a 21st Century MidFielder.
He's nearly on Par with my SuperAlphaBinky from the 2012 Draft, LaVonte David.
There's really not much to say: As a Run Defender, he consistently instantly diagnoses the Play, Rapidly Reading & Reacting, accelerating towards the Ball with explosive Speed, and wraps up the Carrier reliably, time after time.
As a Pass Defender, he plays with an equally amazing Vision and understanding, and reacts with equal Rapidity.
He's a textbook Tackler: Zero Splash, 100% HardCore Execution.
And he's an inspiring Born Leader: Named Captain of his Squad at Kansas State before he'd ever played a Down.
Where do I sign?
3 ~ DT Brandon Williams of Missouri Southern @ #94 ~ Enormous Win!! I gave him a Top 10 Grade, too!!
Brandon Williams is a phenomenal Nose Tackle Prospect. He's raw, mind you, but his Core Strength and especially his Drive Power are simply Awesome, and he's quick Off The Snap, too!! Perhaps most stunning is his Athleticism, at 336 Beastish Pounds!! Best of all is'is Motor, though: Incredible Stamina for such a Big Man.
This is the kind of Prospect that you can build your Defense around ~ and a damned good one, too.
He may very well be The Steal of the Draft, when all is said and done.
4 ~ WB Kyle Juszczyk of Harvard at #130 ~ Good Pick. No Report, but Fair Value for an intriguing Weapon.
They didn't draft anyone in the 5th Round or beyond nor pick up any UFA's that I find especially intriguing, but for the Super Bowl Champions* ~ sorry, but the Miners got robbed!! ~ to start off picking 32nd in each Round and still manage to come up with not one but two guys that I gave Top 10 Grades to is phenomenal.
