Processing Speed ~ Decent. Makes some mistakes, but not too too many.
Pass Defense ~ Outstanding Verticity. Can Turn & Burn at an high level. Phenomenal Fluidity and tremendous Acceleration. Completely lacks Core Strength. Clearly best in Off Coverage or in Zone. Would be a disaster in Press.
Run Defense ~ Sketchy. Like many Defensive Backs, he's good for a Splash Play when circumstances present him with the Opportunity to Tee Off, but he's bad at Setting The Edge, despite a good Effort level.
If any Team ever decides to simply run Power Sweeps at Trufant all day long, he'll never live to play another day...
In fact, that's true of many Defensive Backs, these days.
But in the 21st Century NFL, Desmond Trufant projects, in my view, to not only survive but indeed to thrive: He's a little raw, mind you, but he commands an exhilarating combination of explosive Verticity when he needs to Flip Hips, and fantastic Fluidity when he needs to quickly redirect at a less dramatic Angle.
I like Desmond Trufant. He's an annoying, chatty bastard, but he plays with sustained Intensity. My favorite Tape on'm, in fact, was the 2012 Oregon Game, where his Huskies got slaughtered. They were down by 28, halfway through the 2nd Quarter, and eventually lost 52-21...But Trufant played like the Devil, and simply never let up.
That's not just simply admirable: It translates to the Professional Level, where Work Ethic & Pride rapidly separate the Wheat from the Chaff: Persistence and hard work go a long ways towards determining success in the NFL.
2 ~ CB Robert Alford ~ SouthEastern Louisiana Lions @ #60 ~ Reach!! Gave'm a 4th Round Ranking!!
I really like the kid ~ tremendous Verticity to Flip Hips and Turn & Burn in Coverage ~ but he's optimally deployed as a Slot Corner, I think, and I don't see spending more'n a 3rd or 4th on such a Prospect. No offense.
3 ~ QB Sean Renfree ~ Duke Blue Devils @ #249 ~ Phenomenal Pick!! Gave'm a 1st Round Ranking!!
Accuracy > Sensational. Renfree consistently displays extraordinary Field Vision and Spacial Diagnostics, reliably and repeatedly leading his Receivers with tremendous success. He often showcases PinPoint Accuracy.
Diagnostics > Exceptional. Poised. Excellent Vision & Instincts. Needs Work, mind you, in deciphering Defenses, but his Processing Speed as he reads'is Progression is outstanding, and he reads the Field well.
Sean Renfree is an extraordinary Prospect flying Under The Radar. And because he injured his Right Pectoral on the last Play of'is College Career, and will of course need time to recover, I believe that he's going to remain there.
And that's remarkable, considering the horrific quality of this Year's QuarterBack Draft Class, because I believe that Sean Renfree is a legitimate Field General with the Poise, the Processing Speed, the Arm, the Vision, the Instincts, and the Moxie to succeed at the next level...and that he may very well prove to be the best'f'm.
Even though I though Trufant to be a fair Pick at that point, I generally think that burning a juicy #92 or such just to move up 8 spots is generally a pretty bad move, as there were some nice options at #30 and at #92.
And I thought that Alford at #60 was a pretty raw Reach.
But, yes: Renfree ~ the prospective Value of Sean Renfree ~ redeems the entire Draft, in my view.
