Run Blocking ~ Phenomenal. Cooper was born to Run Block in a Zone Scheme.
Pass Blocking ~ Superior. He doesn't command World Class Core Strength, but it's sufficient, and, furthermore, it seems that he was asked to play lighter at North Carolina, and has already since beefed up. This is a remarkably Motivated Lad, and I have no doubt that the Core Strength & Drive Power we see at The Next Level will emphatically eclipse that that we saw in College. Furthermore, he's a brilliant Lad, and an incredibly Athletic one. He'll be Great.
Oh, I love this kid!!
Jon Cooper commands a mesmerizing fusion of Core Power, Fluidity, Lateral Agility, and absolutely flat out phenomenal Burst ~ he can run Power Sweeps all day long!!
His Core Strength is only average, at this point, but he's got the Frame to develop that into a Strength, and I have every Faith that he will do precisely that.
Jon Cooper is my Dream Offensive Guard. He run Pulls, Traps, and Sweeps all day long, Baby!!
Chance Warmack will probably go to more Pro Bowls, because his considerable Strengths ~ especially his phenomenal Core Strength ~ are more conducive to the modern Passing League, as it's often called.
But Jon Cooper would go to more Pro Bowls if I were running a team, because I believe that the greatest Opportunity for Offenses, today ~ due to Defenses being compelled to respond to the Rules increasingly favoring Passing by deploying smaller Front Lines and smaller Players, as I've discussed here ~ is in attacking these smaller, faster Defenses On The Ground. A balanced team, but one with exceptional Offensive Guards and the will to deploy them in this way...can dominate.
That makes Jonathan Cooper ~ if used right ~ a potentially phenomenal Weapon.
2 ~ MF Kevin Minter ~ Louisiana State Tigers @ #45 ~ OverRated Reach, I think!! 4th Round Ranking!!
Run Defense ~ Excellent, in between the Tackles, but lacks Lateral Agility & Range.
Pass Defense ~ Decent Verticity.
Pass Rush ~ Mediocre.
Intangibles ~ Outstanding. Extraordinary Processing Speed. Twice named Team Captain.
Kevin Minter seems to me to be a classic MidFielder, which is to say that his greatest Strengths lie in making Tackles In The Box, but that he's not at'is best tracking SideLine to SideLine or in Pass Defense.
And I believe that that dramatically limits his Potential in the 21st Century.
3 ~ CB Tyrann Mathieu ~ Louisiana State Tigers @ #69 ~ Bit of a Reach!! Gave'm a 4th Round Ranking.
Mathieu's certainly a risk, regardless of where you pick'm ~ and early 3rd was a bit rich for my taste. It's not'is size that worries me, but rather'is penchant for taking risks: He'll make a lot of Splash Plays and show up on the HighLight Reels ~ even win a Game or two that way ~ but I fear that he plays far too undisciplined to be relied on against the best Competition, after New Year's Day, in The Only Games That Really Matter.
Even so, he is a natural Leader, tough as nails, athletic, agile, and instinctive...And I happily acknowledge that if he can manage to stay in compliance with the Fascist Drug Policies of the Land and the League, and if ~ far more importantly ~ he can channel his energies and intelligence into a more disciplined role...he could be great.
4 ~ DR Alex Okafor ~ Texas LongHorns @ #103 ~ Bit of a Reach!! Gave'm a 5th Round Ranking.
Pass Rush ~ Excellent Drive Power, but awful Fluidity & weak Repertoire of Moves.
Run Defense ~ Disciplined Edger Setter, but mediocre in Combat, and awful Lateral Agility & Range.
Pass Defense ~ Verticity is decent but rapidly improving.
Intangibles ~ Awesome. Tremendous Diagnotics & Processing Speed and phenomenal Motor!!
I like Alex Okafor, and I believe that his relentless Motor and tremendous Intelligence will enable'm to forge a decent Career, but I'm afraid that his Athletic limitations will impinge on his UpSide quite dramatically.
He could play either End or Flanker, I think, but would probably be best as a Left End on the Strong Side.
5 ~ OG Earl Watford ~ James Madison Dukes @ #116 ~ Excellent Pick!! Gave'm a 2nd/3rd Rounding Ranking!!
Watford brings excellent Burst & Agility to the table, and I'd be very surprised if he didn't develop into a superior starting Guard in the next couple of Years ~ or quite possibly a Center, considering his size, which is perfect for an Offensive Guard in a Zone Scheme, but more optimal for a Center in Coach Arian's Power Scheme.
6 ~ FL Ryan Swope ~ Texas A&M Aggies @ #174 ~ Outstanding Pick!! Gave'm a 1st Round Ranking!!
*Swope has retired as of this writing, due to yet another Concussion this Summer, but all Picks harbor Risks, and I would be derelict in my Duty if I ignored what I believe to've been a tremendous Bet that the Cardinals placed!!
Swope was clearly more susceptible to Concussions than was known to the Public at the time of the Draft ~ and I certainly have absolutely no Inside Information, hence my lofty Ranking of the lad ~ so those of us who don't either work directly for the 32 Teams nor have Spies to inform us must do the best we can with what we have, eh??
Here's hoping that Young Swope has an early and complete recovery and that his Cranium grows stronger as a result of its recent travails, and that he enjoys a long and health life...including a quick return to this Great Game, punctuated by a glorious Decade with the Cardinals, one that of course casts me in a brilliant light!!
Ryan Swope is an incredible Flanker Prospect. His Routing is refined & Disciplined, his Separation before the Catch and'is Navigation after the Catch are sweet and deadly. He consistently beats the CornerBacks Off the Blocks to Release DownField. He's an outstandingly reliable Catcher. His Blocking need work, but that of most Flankers does.
Ryan Swope, in a word, is a burgeoning Master Craftsman at'is Trade ~ a guy who's clearly demonstrated the Passion and the relentless Motor to invest thousands and thousands of Hours, over the Years, into'is Pursuit of Greatness. This is, of course, a classic TradeMark of marginally Athletic guys who succeed well beyond Reason.
Except that it just so happens that Ryan Swope also happens to be a remarkably Quick, Fluid, Explosive, and Instinctive guy who boasts blazing, blistering Long Speed ~ that was a 435 in the 40, for those scoring at Home.
Ladies & Laddies? I do believe we have a Beast on our hands.
But I thought that they redeemed themselves quite impressively with those last two Picks I mentioned, ending up with ~ by my Ranking ~ 2 1st Rounders, a 2nd/3rd, and a couple'f 4ths!! It makes no Impact on my Assessment that Swope's already retired, because an intensive study of Draft History shows that there is a an high Casualty Rate in every Year's Draft Class, even among the 1st Rounders. Therefore, it seems only fair, to me, to judge the Draft Classes as if I was viewing them on Monday Morning after the Draft and the signings of the UFA's!!
