Showcases a decent first step off the snap when asked to get into his routes in the pass game, but isn't a real smooth or coordinated receiver down the field. Seems to lose his balance when trying to fire off the line too quickly and fails to cleanly slip defenders off the line or down the field. Exhibits only average short-area quickness when asked to redirect and work his way back toward the football, but lacks the athleticism to generate much separation for himself out of his breaks. Nevertheless, he does have a decent feel when asked to recognize zone and will work back toward the football, finding soft spots underneath.
Impression: Displays average ability in both the run and pass game, looks like a fringe roster guy."
Positive: Solid pass-catching tight end who lacks the measurables to be first on the depth chart at the next level. Blocks with good lean, gets leverage on opponents, and flashes ability blocking in motion. Quickly releases off the line into pass routes, nicely adjusts to the errant throw, and displays strong hands with the ability to pull the fastball from the air. Consistently extends to make the reception away from his frame and possesses terrific focus.
Negative: Not a strong or sturdy tight end. Rarely gets movement as a blocker or finishes off defenders. Lacks the speed to be a true downfield threat at the position.
Analysis: Adams is a hardworking prospect who gets the most from his ability and has been reliable on the college level. He does the little things well and can make it as a number two tight end in a system that consistently put him in motion."
Negatives: Not especially fast... Simply an underneath target... Struggles to create separation... A bit choppy in and out of cuts... Lacks elusiveness in open field... Does not have a whole lot of blocking experience... Can be walked back and driven off the ball by stronger defenders... Inconsistent blocking technique... Leans into some blocks... Either gets too wide or goes with heavy short steps... Not very strong... Doesn't generate much power... Very average at just about everything... Suffered a knee injury on the opening kickoff of the 2008 season and missed the remainder of that season."
