Isn't real athletic in the pass game either. Tends to lunge into blocks consistently, gets doubled over at the waist and lacks ideal range even in tight areas to mirror through contact. Isn't a real compact or physical puncher and seemed to struggle inside with his awareness working in tandem with his guard.
Impression: A big body but lacks the ability to hold up and play with leverage inside in both the run and pass game."
Positive: Massive lineman most effective blocking for the run. Quickly sets up off the snap, immediately gets his hands into defenders and extends to keeps opponents away. Stays square, strong and turns opponents off the line or controls them once engaged in a block. Solid run blocker and moves defenders off the line.
Negative: Lumbers about the field and is not light his feet. Struggles to adjust and is not a natural knee bender.
Analysis: Bender was a solid lineman on the college level and has the size to play in the NFL. He's more of a developmental prospect who must improve his flexibility to have any chance of making an active roster."
Strengths: Huge size and wingspan coupled with good footwork and overall mechanics. Bender, while huge is still mobile enough to get down-field and make second level blocks.
Weaknesses: Converted from tackle, lacks speed typically found in a guard. Can be beaten by speed rush. Battled knee injury from freshman year into sophomore year - seems to be past that, however.
Projection: 5th round. Exceptional performance at pro-day with strong times will move him up."
