Runs hard and possesses adequate natural power, occasionally fighting off tacklers and staying on his feet. However, lacks the initial burst to separate and create for himself once he gains a step. Does a nice job setting up blocks on perimeter runs, but needs plays to be blocked off well in order to be effective and reach the edge.
Isn't real instinctive inside and lacks the lateral suddenness to consistently create for himself when nothing is there. Didn't exhibit the pad level to push the pile and fight for tough yards inside and was just very "blah" even vs. the softer Big 12 defenses.
Impression: Possesses decent size, but isn't dynamic in any area of the game as a runner and will likely need to earn his keep as a free agent."
Positive: Patient ball carrier who displays small-area quickness. Waits for blocks develop, follows them everywhere on the field, and shows a burst through the hole. Displays elusiveness in a small area with the ability to quickly change direction and lose no momentum. Makes defenders miss, creates yardage, and shows the ability to turn the corner. Solid pass catcher who adjusts to errant throws and makes catches in stride.
Negative: One-speed athlete who cannot run to daylight. Not a strong ball carrier who picks up yardage off initial contact. Easily knocked off balance by the initial hit.
Analysis: Finley is coming off a terrific senior campaign, but he lacks ideal size/speed numbers to be anything other than a third or fourth back on an NFL roster. It would help his cause this summer if he shows immediate production catching the ball out of the backfield."
Strengths: Tough, physical, tackle-to-tackle runner. Not big but has nice strength and power. Patient and follows his blocks, and slips tacklers in the backfield and at the line of scrimmage. Solid in short yardage; can lower his shoulders and push the pile. Downhill runner with an excellent initial burst. Solid blocker and displays good hands as a receiver.
Weaknesses: Not very big and lacks elusiveness. Doesn't make people miss in the open field. Despite a nice burst, gets caught from behind on long runs. Has good hands, but is not used often as a receiver and is very raw running routes.
Projection: Solid back who can stay on the field on every down, and should be drafted late as a result. Will compete for a backup/complimentary role."
