He is a quick-twitch player who can struggle when turning to let loose and run on a straight line. He is a bit undersized, but this is less of a concern for Brown than others considering the physical nature of his play.
Brown has a tendency to play cautiously to prevent getting beat deep, which can affect his play in zone coverage. He is far from an electric athlete. Expect him to be selected in the fifth or sixth round.
He may struggle reacting to plays in zone and works better out of man coverage, where he has displayed the type of ability to cover 1-on-1 at the next level. He is an explosive athlete who has shown the ability to be a confident "island" corner. Look for him to play more toward the field in schemes to utilize his tackling ability in run support.
Looks more comfortable in his drop when asked to play in off-coverage, does a nice job keeping his base down and being patient in his back-pedal. Will get a bit high at times, but it’s his narrow lower half and footwork that causes him to really struggle to change directions and transition out of his back-pedal.
Exhibits some natural fluidity and straight-line speed when asked to turn and run and can track the football vertically. However, lacks ideal ball skills and simply struggles to maintain his balance going up and making a play on the ball in one-on-one situations.
Lacks ideal instincts in zone coverage, has a tendency to get caught playing too far off at times, giving a lot of room to play with underneath and doesn’t do an adequate enough job disrupting the timing of receivers with a bump down the field.
Easily loses track of wideouts behind him and lacks the body control/footwork to again maintain balance and adjust to the pass.
Impression: Is a gifted, well-put-together athlete that has some natural fluidity and can turn and run. But lacks ideal balance/footwork and something just seems to be off when he’s asked to adjust and make a play on the football. Looks more like a reserve corner to me who can’t be trusted on the outside in the NFL."
Lacks elite top-end speed but is explosive in short area and packs a punch — will come up and tackle.
Has return experience and a lot of starts under his belt but is immature and lacks mental toughness.
Always will be limited by his size, but plays with a chip on his shoulder and could develop into a serviceable nickel back."
Physical corner who had 66 tackles in 2009; former prep WR has decent ball skills and had 3 picks and 6 other pass breakups in 2009, but did get picked on at times; lacks sprinter speed, but has a quick first step;
Not the most instinctive player and can be beaten deep; missed 4 games in 2008 with an ankle injury."
